Late to the Party: Why GTA 6 is Finally Making Me Play GTA 5

It’s a confession that might get my gamer card revoked: I have never played Grand Theft Auto V. As someone who grew up cruising the neon-lit streets of Vice City and exploring the vast expanse of San Andreas, skipping the most successful entertainment product of all time seems almost absurd. Yet, life happened. Between raising kids, a demanding job, and a stubborn desire to avoid things everyone else was hyping up, I let GTA 5 pass me by.

Now, a decade later, the monumental hype surrounding GTA 6 is forcing me to correct this massive gaming mistake.

The Catalyst: The Unescapable Shadow of GTA 6

Working in the gaming sphere means you cannot escape GTA 6. Every frame of its trailer has been analyzed, every rumor dissected. The sheer magnitude of what Rockstar Games is building in the new iteration of Vice City is awe-inspiring.

But as the excitement builds for 2025, a nagging feeling has been creeping in. How can I truly appreciate the leap forward in GTA 6 without experiencing the masterpiece that set the standard? I realized my stubbornness was only cheating myself out of a legendary gaming experience.

Swallowing My Pride and Entering Los Santos

For years, my excuse was time. "A 30-plus hour campaign is too much of a commitment," I told myself. But looking at my backlog of half-finished games, I knew that was a lie. The truth is, the longer I waited, the more daunting the idea of jumping into a 10-year-old game felt.

So, I’ve finally made a plan. I am dusting off my copy of the game, setting aside my current playlist, and going all-in on Los Santos.

The Ultimate Preparation

Before we officially book our tickets to Leonida, I want to experience the highs and lows of Michael, Franklin, and Trevor. I want to see how Rockstar perfected their open-world formula before they attempt to shatter it again.

Sometimes, the best way to prepare for the future of gaming is to go back and appreciate the history you missed. It’s time to finally see what those 200 million other players have been talking about all these years.
